Are we here to fight for a cause or commit crimes?
Dear Black Lives Matter supporters,
The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement was initially created as a result of the increasing injustices and discrimination faced by black Americans in the United States. The BLM movement is aimed at pushing for change and forcing governments, legislatures and organisations to address the racial issues faced by black Americans.
The recent unwarranted deaths of black individuals in America have increased BLM protests. We are protesting as a community, as a people in unity to tell the government, legislatures authorities and to tell the world that enough is enough. No longer will we tolerate our black brothers and sisters being killed without cause. No longer will stand for being discriminated against.
We are here to fight for a cause not commit crimes! By participating in looting and other criminal activities you are weakening our stance and our fight. By protesting we are trying to get the attention of the relevant authorities and force them to re-evaluate and change the current laws and procedures in place which directly or indirectly discriminate or promote discrimination against blacks. We want the media and headlines to focus on our efforts and strives for change, but instead the focus of most media outlets are the criminal activities of those disguised as protesters. These individuals who participate in criminal activities disguise themselves as protesters to aid them in committing their crimes and thus it becomes difficult for the world to differentiate who is protester and who is a criminal. Consequently the movement becomes less about our fight for justice and equality and more about criminal activity. Below is an example of a headline by a news article in the UK:
George Floyd protesters ‘blocked firefighters during rescue of child from burning building’
This little girl in the article nearly died not only because the building she was in had been set alight by alleged BLM protesters, but also because these individuals proceeded to block the fire brigade from getting to the property to put out the fire. The fire brigade literally had to force themselves though a crowd of alleged protesters who were throwing bottles and all kinds of objects at them. And I thank Jesus that the fire brigade were able to save her. But to those who set the building alight and tried to prohibit the fire brigade from putting out the fire, why? What were you trying to gain from such a vile act? Acts like these do nothing for the movement but only paint protesters in a bad light. By engaging in such acts you are preventing the world from taking us seriously and thus making it difficult for change to take place!
So I ask and plead with you that you stop with this foolishness. Direct your focus and efforts to what's really important here: justice and equality.
